12% fewer homes coming on O.C. market, analyst reports

March 08th, 2013, 10:13 am

by JEFF COLLINS  OC Register

The number of Orange County

homeowners putting their properties up

for sale this year dropped 12 percent,

keeping listings near the lowest level seen

in at least nine years, Steve Thomas of

ReportsOnHousing.com reported this week.

During the first two months of the year, 5,887 homes
entered the market, vs. 6,721 in the first two months
of 2012, Thomas reported.
That held the inventory of homes for sale to 3,237
as of Feb. 28 – just 76 homes more than at the start
of the year. Last year at this time, Orange County had
7,189 homes on the market, or almost 4,000 more than today.

CA: Continued Shortage of Homes for Sale

For release:
February 21, 2013
Continued shortage of homes
on the market and seasonal
slowdown send California
home sales and prices lower
in January, C.A.R. reports
LOS ANGELES (Feb. 21) – A typical
seasonal slowdown, combined with
a scarcity of available homes for sale
put a damper on the California housing
market in January, with both home sales
and median price declining from December,
the CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF
REALTORS® (C.A.R.) reported.
“A rush by home buyers trying to complete
sales of higher-priced homes by the end of
last year in order to avoid capital gains
increases pulled forward sales that might
have closed in January instead,” said C.A.R.
President Don Faught.  “Additionally, the
extreme shortage of homes for sale continues
to hinder California’s housing market, as
demonstrated by the nearly two months’-supply
drop compared with last year.”
